1940

Utah Symphony presented its first season in
Salt Lake City with five concerts.

1949

Two Ogden women brought the Utah Symphony to Ogden for 1 performance. The cost was $400, and 300 people attended.

1950

The Welfare League, later known as the Junior League of Ogden, established a Symphony Committee with responsibilities for all of the operations needed for the Utah Symphony performances in Ogden. A Community Board of 25 members provided needed community support.

1957

The Junior League and the Community Board saw increases in the number of concerts and concert attendance. The Community Board grew stronger, and with the aid of League volunteers, evolved into an effective Community Guild. Articles of Incorporation were filed for the Ogden Guild. The name was later changed to the Ogden Symphony Association.

1979

In July, the Association, with support from Weber State College, held an outdoor "Pops" concert at the Ada Lindquist Plaza on the college campus. Approximately 2,500 people attended, listened to the symphony, and watched a display of fireworks. The Association continued to host the event for 10 years in partnership with Weber State University and the Lindquist Family. (In 2004, the event drew 60,000

1982

Ballet West approached the Ogden Symphony Association to present Ballet West performances in Ogden. The Association agreed and changed its name to the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association.

1990

During the first forty years of symphony performances in Ogden, the Association grew from the first concert with 300 in attendance to seven classical concerts, two chamber concerts, and ten Ballet West performances, including the Nutcracker. The Ogden Symphony Ballet Association met the artistic needs of the community for forty years and looked ahead to forty more.

2000

The Association celebrated 50 years of "Bringing the Arts Home" to Ogden with a special performance of the Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Most tickets were free to the public. Mayor Matthew Godfrey declared October 19-26 "Ogden Symphony Ballet Association

2006

The Association budget reached nearly 1 million dollars. It included a season of five Utah Symphony Masterworks (Classical) concerts, five Utah Symphony Pops (Entertainment) concerts, five performances of Ballet West including the Nutcracker, three family performances (two with the Utah Symphony and one with Children's Dance Theatre), a full-length opera, and a self-produced concert called "A Broadway Valentine." The average concert cost $24,000 and 1,000 people attended.

  • Tickets may be purchased on this website, on the telephone by calling (801) 399-9214, or at our office located at 638 E. 26th Street.

 

How do I find your Ticket Office?

  • The Ogden Symphony Ballet Association Ticket Office is located at 638 E. 26th Street in Ogden. Just 2 and ½ blocks East of Washington Boulevard, our office is located directly behind the Eccles Community Arts Center (2580 Jefferson Avenue) and the entrance to our parking lot is from Orchard Avenue.

 

What are your office hours?

  • Our office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

What time does the performance start?

  • All Utah Symphony Classical and Pops Series performances, as well as the Special Event, begin at 7:30 p.m.
  • All Family Series and Ballet West Series performances begin at 7:00 p.m.

 

Where in the Browning Center are your performances held?

  • All of the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association performances are held in the Austad Auditorium at the Val A. Browning Center.

 

When do Tickets go on sale?

  • Season Tickets go on sale immediately following the final performance of our season. For example: the final performance of the 2008-2009 Season is Tchaikovsky’s Big Five, on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Season Tickets may be purchased starting May 8, 2009. (Please note that current Season Ticket Holders are guaranteed their seats from the previous year. All other ticket orders will be placed following current Season Ticket Holders and in the order they were received).
  • Single Tickets go on sale the Tuesday following Labor Day. Depending on the opening performance of the season, this date is subject to change.
  • Single tickets to the Nutcracker may be purchased the second Monday of October.

 

If I order online or over the phone, how do I get my tickets?

  • Generally tickets will be mailed to you on the day that you order them. If you order them the week of the performance, they will be held for you at Will Call and can be picked up at our office or starting 1 hour prior to the performance at the Browning Center’s Box Office.

 

When I attend a performance, where can I park and is there a charge?

  • There is free parking in the parking lots south of the Browning Center or Valet parking is available for a charge of $3.

 

I am a Senior Citizen and no longer able to drive, is there transportation available to and from the performances?

  • The Ogden Symphony Ballet Association sponsors “The Ride” for Senior Citizens living in Weber County at no cost. Please call our office no later than the Monday prior to the performance if you would like a seat on “The Ride.”

**”The Ride” is a service provided by Weber County to Weber County residents.**

 

What is “Conversations?”

  • “Conversations” are pre-concert lectures given 45 minutes prior the Classical Series concerts and the Ballet West performances (excluding the Nutcracker). These lectures are given, by the Artistic Director, Conductor, or a Guest Lecturer in Room 113 of the Val A. Browning Center.

 

How long is the performance?

  • The Utah Symphony Classical and Pops Series last approximately 2 hours. The Family Series last approximately 1 hour with the exception of Cho’s Anatomy which will last 2 hours. The Ballet West Series performances vary between 2 and 3 hours depending on the performance.

 

I am a Student. Can I purchase tickets at a discount?

  • Yes! Any student with a valid I.D. may purchase up to 2 tickets for $8.00 each. Student tickets go on sale the Monday prior to the concert. The student must be present to show I.D. at our office at 638 E. 26th Street in Ogden.

 

Can I buy tickets at the door?

  • The Box Office is open at the Browning Center 1 hour prior to the performance (6:30 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. show). Tickets are subject to availability.

 

Is there a discount available for groups?

  • If you have a group of 10 or more, you can purchase tickets at a discount. These discounts are not available online. Call our office at (801) 399-9214 or visit us at 638 E. 26th Street in Ogden for prices.

 

Do you give refunds if I cannot attend a performance?

  • No, we don’t give refunds. You can exchange your tickets for any other performance in the current season by bringing your tickets to our office no later than 48 hours prior to the concert you have tickets for.

 

If I’m late for a performance I have tickets for, can I still go inside?

  • Late seating for any performance depends on that particular performance. Generally you will be allowed to go to your seat between numbers. Try to arrive early though, because sometimes the first number doesn’t end until intermission.

 

What is your age limit for children?

  • The age limit for the Utah Symphony Classical and Pops Series is 8 years old.
  • The age limit for the Nutcracker is 3 years old. For all other Ballets the minimum age is 8 years old.
  • There is no age limit for the Family Series, however we suggest that for Cho’s Anatomy you not bring children under 8 years of age.

 

What should I wear?

  • You will see a wide range of clothing at our performances. Generally, wearing business casual (slacks, skirts and a nice shirt) will suffice, yet don't feel bashful about dressing up in something more formal!

 

What is the etiquette for applause at a Classical Symphony?

  • It is customary to applaud when the conductor enters the stage. You may take this cue from those who can see the conductor's entrance. Most symphonies are broken into movements, with a slight pause indicating the end of one movement and the beginning of the next. As a standard practice, applause is held until after all movements of the piece have been completed. If you are unclear as to when the piece has been completed, simply wait until the music has stopped and the conductor has turned around to face the audience.

Season ticket holders are guaranteed the same seats from year to year. If you’d like to change your seats, just request that change when you order your tickets and we’ll do our best to put you in the seats you want.

The Season Subscription Process

• All renewing subscribers are guaranteed the same seats if they wish (timely pre-payment required).
• Renewing subscribers may request seat changes; please note requests on the renewal form.
• New subscription orders are placed after renewals and in the order they are received.
• Tickets will be mailed early-August.
• Ticket exchanges may be made after you receive your tickets and before single tickets go on sale to the general public Monday, August 18, 2008.

Directions to Weber State University from Salt Lake City (South):

Take I-15 north toward Ogden. Exit onto US-89 using exit 324 (next to Lagoon Amusement Park). Travel north (approx. 12.5 miles). Bear right onto Harrison Boulevard. Turn right at 3950 South onto Weber State University Campus. Follow directional signs to the Val A. Browning Center.

Directions to Weber State University from Logan (North):

Take I-15 south toward Ogden. Take exit 341 and turn left onto 31st Street. Travel to Washington Boulevard and turn right. Travel to 36th Street and turn left. Turn right at Harrison Boulevard then left at 3950 South and onto Weber State University Campus. Follow directional signs to the Val A. Browning Center.

The Ogden Symphony Ballet Association is a completely separate and distinct organization from the Utah Symphony & Opera and Ballet West. Ogden Symphony Ballet Association contracts with these artistic companies for local performances, and does not receive subsidies from them. The RAMP (Recreation, Arts, Museums & Parks) tax, approved by the voters in Weber County in November 2004, benefits the arts community.

Did you know that...

The average cost to OSBA for:

A ballet is $35,000 a performance.

A masterworks concert is $27,500.

A pops concert is $30,000.

A family concert is $9,000

Guest artists' fees range from $4,000 to $16,500. Production, venue rental and marketing costs are additional.

Ticket sales cover approximately 45% of our total expenses. Therefore, we must raise the balance through fund raising efforts.

Did you know that...

Ogden Symphony Ballet Association must raise over $500,000 each year to pay for performances.

This amount pays for the cost of the local performances; it does not pay Ogden Symphony Ballet Association staff salaries, overhead or advertising.

Exchanges can be made up to 48 hours prior to a performance.

For the enjoyment of all patrons, children under the age of 8 are not admitted to most programs. *The Nutcracker is appropriate for ages 3 & up; and the Family Series is appropriate for all ages.
